The Management of Maxillary Removable Denture in Patient with Palatal Defect After Post Hemimaxillectomy Supported by Tissue Conditioning
Liana Rahmayani , Pocut Aya Sofya, Ifwandi, Syahrial Hasyim

Abstract: The use of acrylic removable dentures is still the most choice of the general public, because it is easy to manipulate, and the price is relatively affordable. Can be used for cases of partial or complete loss of teeth. In this case report, a 50-years-old male patient who came to the dentist office complained of missing teeth after a tumor surgery on his right palate. The patient would like to use the dentures in order to chewing and speak normally as before. Intra-oral clinical examination showed that the palate area had a defect after the surgical removal of the maxillary tumor. In the maxillary there is one remaining tooth, while the mandible is still complete. The acrylic removable dentures was made for the patient. At the beginning of insertion, it was found that the dentures less retentive, due to a large enough defect. To increase retention in this case, tissue conditioning material was used in the defect area. After the addition of tissue conditioning material, the denture becomes retentive. However, the denture need more adjustments after insertion. After one week the patient came back for control and was evaluated, it was seen that the patient had started to adapt to the dentures, and the phonetics were also better than before. It only needs to be explained again after the insertion instructions related to the patient oral hygiene. There was a lot of plaque found on the defect that needed cleaning because that part was covered by the denture plate.
