Scirj Volume XI, Issue III, March 2023 Edition ISSN: 2201-2796 Impact Assessment of Lockdown amid Covid-19 Pandemic On tourism Industry of India Dr. Mohammad Altaf Khan, Mr. Amulya Kumar Sahoo Abstract: Tourism is a labor-intensive sector which significantly contributes to the Indian economy. However, recent pervasive disasters in nature like the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic downturns make it vulnerable to risk. The contribution of tourism to Indian Economy is manifolds. Along with contributing in economic growth, it creates employment opportunities through backward and forward linkages and is one of the potent sources to generate foreign exchange. So, it becomes interesting to speculate over the impact of pandemic on tourism sector of India and how the pandemic immobilized it. The present research paper examines the trend of India’s tourist’s movement during pre-pandemic and pandemic periods. The study is descriptive and analytical in nature. The statistical analysis made with different tools and the results are depicted by graphs and tables which is prepared using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. The results revealed that India’s tourism sector is severely negative affected due to pandemic as movements of people restricted and flight is cancelled both domestic and international. The impact of covid is not only restricted to tourism sector but also affected the other related sectors like aviation, hotels, tour and travel.
